Review the slides prepared on Core Curriculum (Worley).  What do you see as the fundamental differences between the TEKS and the Core Curriculum?

  1. With core curriculum it really only has guidelines for English and math. TEKS has guidelines for all subjects. Also core curriculum is working to be nation wide where as TEKS is only a Texas test.

  4. TEKS is a general guideline used to help the state monitor what the student is learning through testing. Core curriculum provides a clear understanding to the teachers and parents of what the students are suppose to learn.

  5. Main difference is that TEKS is aligned to standardized tests and core curriculum sets standards for each grade level that helps teachers to know what to teach. Core curriculum helps parents know what kids are learning so they can help them learn. Books and materials are written to complement TEKS and not the other way around.

  6. Immediately, I noticed that core curriculum is only for two subjects, whereas the TEKS are for every subject required for graduation. Also, it seems that the TEKS are quite specific, listing out topics the students should know front to back, whereas perhaps Core Curriculum is more generalized?
